Course Description 

The Basic Life Support (BLS)  teaches skills using the American Heart Association’s proven Practice-While-Watching technique, which allows Instructors to observe students, provide feedback, and guide students’ acquisition of skills. With their student manual for the course, students receive the new Pocket Reference Card, designed to provide quick emergency information to the rescuer at any time. 

Successful completion requires the student to pass both a written and skills evaluation. Students receive the BLS course completion card good for 2 years.

Books/ Provider Manuals:  The American Heart Association requires ALL students to bring the corresponding AHA provider manual with them to their course. There are NO EXCEPTIONS.

 The AHA has eBooks available for purchase for BLS! If you choose to purchase an eBook, go to www.ebooks.heart.org in order to download the book.  Note: If you did not purchase the eBook through our registration process you must show your instructor you have the eBook on your portable device (iPad, tablet or smart phone)

Intended Audience

This course is designed for healthcare providers such as EMS personnel, physician assistants, doctors, dentists, nurses, and respiratory therapists who must have a credential (card) documenting successful completion of a CPR course.

If blended training is preferred, the classroom portion can be taken online with skills validation done by individual appointment.

BLS  can also be offered at your location for your staff or our classroom by appointment.

Healthcare Provider Skills Practice and Testing Session

There are two parts to the BLS Heartcode Blended Online Learning course.  

Part 1 is done online.

Part 2 skills practice & evaluation are done in person with an American Heart Association Instructor.

This course is for those who have already purchased and completed the AHA online BLS HeartCode. The online certificate must be printed and presented to the instructor upon arrival at the classroom for skills check-off.

The AHA’s Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course trains participants to provide first aid, CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

Who should take this course?

The AHA’s Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Course is designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for their job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements, or anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting.

This class is a two part process.

2. Certificate of Completion of part 1 is required before you may start you skills session.Your skill session will allow you to practice your skills and then have your skills evaluation by an American Heart Association Instructor.

Instructor Training

The American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor Course will provide instructor candidates with the knowledge and skills necessary to teach potential ACLS Providers.  Health Educational Services provides a curriculum to enable individuals or, your organization's in-house staff, the ability to achieve and maintain their instructor credentials with the American Heart Association. 

 Pre-Requisites:

  • Current BLS and ACLS Provider card. The provider card must be a current AHA BLS, and ACLS provider.
  • Letter of sponsorship from a Community Training Center stating that the candidate is accepted into the training center
  • Letter from a Training Center Faculty member stating he/she will monitor your first class taught within 6 months of completion of the instructor's course.

The purpose of this course is to become an instructor in ACLS. Therefore, if it has been a while since you have taken or reviewed your ACLS skills, please do so prior to the course. 

The overall class will be done in three phases.

The first phase will be several mandatory online, self-paced, courses. (You can click on the course title to launch the course.  You may be required to create an account. 

  1. ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment and Precourse Work  (Approximate time to complete 2-3 hours)
  2. ACLS Essentials Course. Course key will be issued upon registration. The completion time is approximately 2 hours. 

You will be required to bring all course completion certificates with you to the classroom for phase 2.

  • The second phase will be one day of classroom instruction.
  • The third phase will be conducting or assisting in a provider course while being successfully monitored within six (6) months of taking the classroom portion.

This advanced, instructor-led classroom course highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care, and immediate post-cardiac-arrest care. The ACLS course also covers airway management and related pharmacology. In the ACLS Course, skills are taught in large, group sessions and small, group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented.

Successful course completion includes demonstrating skills competency in all learning stations and passing the CPR and AED skills test, a bag-mask ventilation skills test, a Megacode test, and a written test. Upon successful completion, students receive an ACLS Provider card, valid for two years.

 

Course Covers:

• Key changes in advanced cardiovascular life support, reflecting the 2020 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care

• Basic life support skills, including effective chest compressions, use of a bag-mask device, and use of an AED

Primary Audience ACLS is designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care units. The American Heart Association’s course is the premier ACLS training for healthcare providers. The evidence-based content and well-tested teaching methodology can dramatically improve the learning and retention of lifesaving skills.

The goal of the PALS Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes. The course uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to teach and reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics.

There are two parts the PALS Heartcode blended learning course.  

Part 1 is done online

Part 2 skills practice & evaluation are done in person with an American Heart Association Instructor.

This course is for those have already purchased and completed the AHA online PALS HeartCode (Part 1 above). The online certificate must be printed and presented to the instructor upon arrival at the classroom for skills check off.

This class is a two-part process.

This instructor’s course will be taught in accordance with the 2020 Guidelines.  There will be some pre-course work that will need to be completed prior to the classroom session.  Below is a list of what and how the self-study portion of the instructor process will be conducted.

Pre-Requisites:

  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR Provider card. 
  • Letter of sponsorship from a Community Training Center. 
  • Letter from the Training Center Coordinator the instructor candidate will be aligning with, stating he/she will coordinate the monitoring of your first class taught within 6 months of completion of the instructor's course.

The overall class will be done in three phases:

The first phase will be a mandatory, online, self-paced, course.  

  1. BLS Instructor Essentials Course. The course key will be issued upon registration. The completion time is approximately 2 hours. 

You will be required to bring the course completion certificates with you to the classroom for phase 2.

The second phase will be the classroom portion as scheduled above.  And the third phase will be conducting a course while being successfully monitored within six (6) months of taking the classroom portion.  It is your responsibility to set up a class to be monitored.

This bundle package allows students to attend an initial ACLS, and an initial PALS course, in addition the student will complete the BLS Heartcode online portion so that upon successful completion of all courses the student will qualify for a BLS, ACLS and PALS certification card.  Course descriptions are listed below:

 BLS-ACLS-PALS Heartcode with Skills Session

 The BLS-ACLS-PALS Heartcode with Skills Session is for those students who need certification in ALL 3 disciplines.

The student will have to complete the Heartcode online module for each discipline and then schedule a skills session to compete the hands-on portion for all 3 disciplines.  This session will give the opportunity for skills practice and a final evaluation that is done in person with an American Heart Association Instructor.

You will be required to participate in the following skills sessions.

  • BLS CPR (Adult, Child, Infant)
  • Airway Management
  • Megacode (ACLS)
  • Respiratory and/or Shock scenario (PALS)
  • Electrical Therapy scenario (PALS)

The online certificates must be printed and presented to the instructor upon arrival at the classroom for skills check-off.

Upon successful registration, the student will receive confirmation emails, one for each discipline, with a link to complete the online portion of the class.

A textbook is NOT required for blended courses, an electronic copy is included with access available for the two-year period of your certification.

Heartsaver® Total - First Aid CPR AED – For students who are required to take CPR and first
aid training designed to meet regulatory and OSHA requirements for their job. This is the most
common course path taken by employees. Heartsaver courses can also be taken by anyone who
wants to be prepared to act in an emergency.

NRP 8th Edition Advanced Provider 

The Neonatal Resuscitation Program® (NRP®) course conveys an evidence-based approach to the care of the newborn at birth and facilitates effective team-based care for healthcare professionals who care for newborns at the time of delivery. This course content delivers curricula for Advanced Providers who may participate in neonatal resuscitation beyond positive pressure ventilation.

The 8th Edition Provider Course offers 2 different course levels. NRP Advanced Provider, and NRP Essentials Provider

YOU MUST COMPLETE PART 1 ONLINE, BEFORE ATTENDING THE SKILLS SESSION!!

The online Part 1 can be purchased at the time of registration. The online license activation code will be assigned upon the completion of your registration.  The required textbook NRP 8th edition can be purchased or rented (and returned at the completion of the class) at the time of registration.

All participants will complete the exam online to assess the cognitive material presented in the NRP Textbook. You will be required to take the NRP Advanced exam.  

This provider Course may be appropriate for healthcare professionals who attend births and are responsible for anticipated resuscitation of the newborn with known risk factors and for healthcare professionals who participate beyond PPV. NRP Advanced is suited for health care professionals who serve as members of the resuscitation team in the delivery room or in settings where complex neonatal resuscitation may be required.

NRP Advanced providers will be trained in basic and advanced steps of neonatal resuscitation.

Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a course completion card, valid for two years.

ACLS and PALS Initial Provider Bundle

This bundle package allows students to attend an initial ACLS and an initial PALS course. Upon successful completion of both courses, the student will qualify for an ACLS and PALS certification card.  Course descriptions are listed below:

 

A strong understanding of ECG rhythms and cardiac-related pharmacology is required prior to attending these classes.

 

ACLS builds on the foundation of lifesaving BLS for Healthcare Providers' skills, emphasizing the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR. This advanced, instructor-led classroom course highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care, and immediate post-cardiac-arrest care. The ACLS course also covers airway management and related pharmacology. In the ACLS Course, skills are taught in large, group sessions and small, group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented.

Successful course completion includes demonstrating skills competency in all learning stations and passing the CPR and AED skills test, a bag-mask ventilation skills test, a Megacode test, and a written test. 

Course Covers:

• Key changes in advanced cardiovascular life support, reflecting the 2020 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care

• Basic life support skills, including effective chest compressions, use of a bag-mask device, and use of an AED

• Recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest

• Recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions such as symptomatic bradycardia

• Airway management

• Related pharmacology

• Management of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and stroke

• Effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation team

ACLS PROVIDER MANUAL:
The American Heart Association requires ALL students to bring the Current AHA ACLS Provider Manual to class. There are NO EXCEPTIONSYou may purchase the book when you register for the class and have it shipped to you, or pick it up at our office prior to class.

The AHA’s Pediatric Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course trains participants to provide first aid, CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC). This class is approved by the state of California EMSA for Childcare Providers. This class can and does take up to 8 hours.
