Instructor Training
The American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor Course will provide instructor candidates with the knowledge and skills necessary to teach potential ACLS Providers. Health Educational Services provides a curriculum to enable individuals or, your organization's in-house staff, the ability to achieve and maintain their instructor credentials with the American Heart Association.
Pre-Requisites:
- Current BLS and ACLS Provider card. The provider card must be a current AHA BLS, and ACLS provider.
- Letter of sponsorship from a Community Training Center stating that the candidate is accepted into the training center
- Letter from a Training Center Faculty member stating he/she will monitor your first class taught within 6 months of completion of the instructor's course.
The purpose of this course is to become an instructor in ACLS. Therefore, if it has been a while since you have taken or reviewed your ACLS skills, please do so prior to the course.
The overall class will be done in three phases.
The first phase will be several mandatory online, self-paced, courses. (You can click on the course title to launch the course. You may be required to create an account.
- ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment and Precourse Work (Approximate time to complete 2-3 hours)
- ACLS Essentials Course. Course key will be issued upon registration. The completion time is approximately 2 hours.
You will be required to bring all course completion certificates with you to the classroom for phase 2.
- The second phase will be one day of classroom instruction.
- The third phase will be conducting or assisting in a provider course while being successfully monitored within six (6) months of taking the classroom portion.

All instructors are required to have their own copy of the appropriate instructor's manual(s) and corresponding student texts. All required texts are included in the course fee.
