Classes conducted at Natividad Medical Center will give NMC employees priority registration up to one calendar week prior to class. Class size is limited which means there is a possibility that nonemployees may get "bumped" from the class by a Natividad employee. If a non-employee gets bumped, they will be contacted and placed in another class. This process will be done in chronological order of registration. Students will not be bumped due to a NMC employee registering less than seven calendar days prior to the scheduled class. Every effort will be made to accommodate all students in order to enable them to complete the course in the same calendar month as the original class that they registered for.
Any questions regarding this process can be directed to Howard Main at Health Educational Services. 831-424-1867 x101

American Heart Association’s PALS Update Courses The American Heart Association’s PALS Course is an Instructor-led, classroom-based course that enhances healthcare providers’ skills in the treatment of pediatric arrest and peri-arrest patients. The goal of the PALS Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes. The course uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to teach and reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics. This course is for those who are currently certified in PALS with the American Heart Association (AHA).
PALS Precourse Self-Assessment and Precourse Work
An online keycode will be automatically assigned to you upon registration for the cousre. This PALS Precourse Self-Assessment and Precourse work is free and is MANDATORY to complete prior to your class. Instructions to activate your key code will be provided in your confirmation email sent upon registration.
2025 PALS PROVIDER MANUAL:
The American Heart Association requires ALL students to bring the 2025 AHA PALS Provider Manual to class. There are NO EXCEPTIONS. You may purchase the book when you register for the class and have it shipped to you, or pick it up at our office prior to class. An electronic (ebook) is also available and is an acceptable version in lieu of the printed book. An ebook can be purchased at the time of registration or online at ebooks.heart.org.
It is acknowledged that the manuals are an added expense. They are an AHA requirement that allows us to provide you with a valid AHA card at the end of your course. You may also ask your friends, or go to your employer's medical library or education department as they often have copies on hand for just this occasion.
It is strongly suggested that you purchase your provider manual well before your course date. It is important to review the study guides, take the pre-course assessment, and just prepare yourself for the course using this manual.
PALS Provider Course covers:
• The systematic approach to assess and treat a seriously ill or injured infant/child
• Recognition and management of cardiac arrest
• Basic child and infant life support skills
• Effective resuscitation team dynamics
• Recognition and management of respiratory distress and failure, including airway management
• Recognition and management of shock, including vascular access
• Recognition and management of arrhythmias, including electrical therapy
